If you are in the market for some new telecom info, then you are in the right place. T1 or T3 for voice and data, we got em. All your business telecommunications needs here in one place. Stay tuned T1 fans! Small business T1 is doable in your small office too.

Aside from the price, there are other things to compare the advantage of using a T1 over DSL. One of T1’s advantages is that it utilizes a high quality portal in connecting to the internet. T1 has direct connection from ISP to a port dedicated to T1 only and is calibrated at 1.5 mbpss for efficient and fast delivery. This is in contrast to that of a DSL server as it uses a DSLAM unlike the direct portal linkage of T1. This DSLAM handles plenty of data and an influx of these data slows down data transfer. This means that if there is heavy usage in the area around the DSL line there is a significant slowdown in the speed of data transmission while T1 lines are unaffected by the influx of data coming in and out the T1 server.

Thus the greatest difference between the T1 and DSL is that T1 is dedicated to processing internet data only while DSL is handling plenty of data. Though they may have a same throughput speed of 1.25mbpss, one has a dedicated port and the other have a control that traffics plenty of data. The influx of these data slows down its function. This may be experienced in DSL providers practicing over subscription in order to drive down cost. This oversubscription creates heavy traffic and slows down data transfer

In addition to these differences, T1 subscription comes with an SLA. SLA stands for Service Level Agreement where the T1 provider assures 100% uptime of your internet connection. A DSL subscription however may or may not come with an SLA but even if it does, the system structure of the DSL itself cannot guarantee an uninterrupted internet service. This therefore means that a T1 line is more reliable than a DSL line.

Also, in addition to the assurance of T1 providers that your internet connection will be up at all times the SLA covers a speedier response time and a round-the-clock technical support compared to what DSL providers offer its subscribers.

Another major difference between a T1 line and a DSL line is that a DSL is distance-sensitive. This means that DSL lines are only available within a diameter of 15-18 thousand feet with the server. A T1 line on the other hand can be availed as long as there is an existing phone box within the vicinity.
